
ILLINOIS — Two people were killed and three others were injured in a crash early Sunday on the Kennedy Expressway in downtown Chicago, according to Illinois State Police.
Troopers said the crash happened around 1:46 a.m. in the inbound lanes of the expressway near Randolph Street.
Investigators said a passenger vehicle was stopped in the lanes of traffic when it was struck by another car traveling in the same direction.
Authorities said five people were taken to hospitals with injuries. Two of those individuals were later pronounced dead.
Illinois State Police initially reported that three people had been killed but later clarified that two fatalities were confirmed.
The crash remains under investigation.
