GEORGIA — Federal agents seized large amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine during two drug trafficking investigations in Norcross, authorities said.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia and the Drug Enforcement Administration, agents recovered more than 30 pounds of fentanyl and about 10 pounds of methamphetamine during the operations on March 11.

Benjamin Alberto Lozoya, 27, of Chamblee, and Arturo Carreno-Rivera, 45, of Mexico, were arrested and face federal drug trafficking charges.

Investigators said agents saw Lozoya selling more than four pounds of methamphetamine in a parking lot before following him to a nearby trailer.

A search of a shed at the property uncovered 18 pounds of fentanyl and about 25 pounds of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. Authorities said Lozoya also had a stolen loaded handgun and about $11,000 in cash.

In a separate investigation later that day, agents observed Carreno-Rivera conducting a drug transaction at a Norcross gas station. After a traffic stop and a search of his home, agents recovered an additional 12 pounds of fentanyl and a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

Authorities have not said whether the two suspects were connected or part of the same trafficking organization. Federal officials said the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to stop the distribution of fentanyl and methamphetamine in the region.
