NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were arrested last week in Burke County after deputies discovered a quantity of fentanyl large enough to potentially kill 13,000 people, authorities said.

Kayly Allman, 33, and Dustin McCurry, 41, were taken into custody on Wednesday, April 30, during a probable cause search at the Clear Creek Access area of South Mountain State Park.

Deputies said the two were already out on pretrial release at the time of their arrests and have since been denied bond.

During the search, officers reported finding drug paraphernalia, 13.59 grams of methamphetamine, and 26.96 grams of fentanyl.

According to law enforcement, just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be a lethal dose.

Both Allman and McCurry face multiple drug-related charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
