MISSISSIPPI — Two men have been arrested after authorities say they stole an elderly woman’s vehicle during severe storms that moved through Mississippi over the weekend.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the victim reported her vehicle stolen Sunday near the Greenwood-Leflore Airport.

Investigators identified suspects within 48 hours with assistance from the Greenwood Police Department and the Tallahatchie County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was later recovered in Tallahatchie County.

Authorities arrested 38-year-old Billy Earl Akins of Carrollton and 33-year-old Edward Earl Henley of Greenwood. Both men have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker said cases involving elderly victims are treated with urgency, noting many depend on their vehicles for independence. He also credited cooperation among multiple agencies for the quick recovery of the vehicle and arrests.
