VIRGINIA — More than 16,000 homes and businesses across Virginia are without electricity Monday morning, according to data from PowerOutage.us.

As of the latest update, 16,923 customers were without power statewide, representing about 0.41% of the 4,084,390 customers tracked in Virginia. The state ranks eighth in the nation both for the total number of outages and for the percentage of customers affected.

Accomack County on Virginia’s Eastern Shore reported the largest number of outages, with 8,895 customers in the dark — more than half of the statewide total. That accounts for 32.45% of customers in the county, making it the hardest-hit area by percentage as well.
