
MISSISSIPPI — More than 10,000 homes and businesses across Mississippi are without electricity as of Sunday morning following severe storms, according to the latest power outage data.
A total of 10,139 customers are currently without power across the state. That represents about 0.68% of the 1,481,171 electric customers being tracked in Mississippi.
Mississippi currently has the second-highest number of power outages in the United States and ranks first nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.
Among the state’s 82 counties, Hinds County reported the largest number of outages, with 4,292 customers without electricity. Hinds County is also the hardest hit by percentage, with approximately 3.95% of customers in the county affected.
Several other counties are also reporting outages. Madison County has 898 customers without power, followed by Rankin County with 830. Claiborne County reported 682 outages, Copiah County had 541, Scott County reported 414 outages, Franklin County had 324 and Clay County reported 272 customers without electricity.
Outage data from 27 utilities across Mississippi is currently being tracked. Entergy reported the largest number of customers without power, with 7,433 outages. Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association has the highest percentage of customers affected, with about 6.95% of its customers without electricity.
Utility crews continue working to restore service. The causes of the outages were not immediately available.
