South Carolina teacher arrested for crime involving student

SOUTH CAROLINA — A Union County teacher and assistant baseball coach has been arrested on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

According to the Union County Detention Center website, 29-year-old Nicholas Bryan Turner was arrested Thursday on charges of criminal solicitation of a minor and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Union County Schools confirmed that Turner serves as an assistant baseball coach at Union County High School and a physical education teacher at Sims Middle School.

In a statement, Union County Schools said, “Union County Schools was made aware of the allegations involving Mr. Turner at the start of the investigation. In accordance with district policy, the employee was immediately placed on administrative leave while the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) conducted its investigation.

“We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously and continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. As this is an ongoing legal matter, the district is unable to provide additional details at this time.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
