Severe storms expected across parts of Texas

TEXAS — Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact portions of Texas Friday, with large hail and damaging winds identified as the primary threats, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

Much of north and northwest Texas is under a “slight risk” for severe weather, while a broader “marginal risk” extends across additional areas of the state.

SPC Day 1 Outlook

Forecasters say storms are expected to develop Friday afternoon along a dryline stretching across western and north-central Texas. Additional storm development is also possible in northwest Texas and the Panhandle region.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, atmospheric conditions will support strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts. Storms are expected to become more widespread into the evening hours, potentially organizing into a larger line of storms.

While the overall tornado threat in Texas is lower than in areas farther north, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially with any discrete storms that form ahead of the main line.

Forecasters also noted that multiple rounds of storms are possible in some areas, which could prolong the severe weather threat into the overnight hours.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued.
