MISSISSIPPI — Authorities are searching for a teenage suspect following a stabbing Wednesday morning in Union County, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Jimmy Edwards identified the suspect as 17-year-old Mageb Alshami. Officials said Alshami is originally from Yemen based on his U.S. government-issued identification.
According to investigators, the victim had picked up Alshami for work along Highway 348 near New Albany when the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach for unknown reasons.
Authorities said the victim was able to pull over and drive himself to a hospital in New Albany before later undergoing surgery at a hospital in Tupelo.
After the stabbing, Alshami fled the scene on foot. He was last seen wearing white pants and a black shirt.
Law enforcement said they do not believe the suspect is armed, but he is considered dangerous. Officials believe he may be in or near the Center community and noted that he does not speak English.
Anyone with information about Alshami’s whereabouts is urged to call 911 or contact the Union County Sheriff’s Department at 662-534-1943.
The investigation remains ongoing.
