SOUTH CAROLINA — The Florence Police Department is investigating an assault that took place Friday afternoon at the Walmart on South Irby Street.
Officers said they were called to the store at 2014 S. Irby St. around 4:45 p.m. after a reported fight between an employee and two individuals.
According to police, the incident began when an employee stopped the subjects as they were leaving and asked for a receipt.
After a brief argument, one of the subjects allegedly pushed the employee, causing him to stumble. Police said the employee then approached the subject and punched him, sparking a fight between the two.
Another individual intervened and broke up the altercation before the two subjects fled the scene.
The employee was taken to a hospital for evaluation but did not appear to suffer serious injuries, officials said.
Police said parts of the incident were captured on surveillance video, and the investigation is ongoing.
