MISSISSIPPI — Police in Picayune are searching for a 13-year-old suspected of shooting a 16-year-old during an incident Monday afternoon.
According to Picayune Police Chief Joe Quave, officers were called to apartments on Lewis Circle around 2 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Investigators said the two teenagers were outside the apartment complex when the shooting occurred.
Police believe the 13-year-old shot the 16-year-old. Authorities said the older teen fired back, but only the 16-year-old was injured. His injuries were described as not life-threatening.
While police have identified the 13-year-old suspect, he has not yet been taken into custody. Chief Quave said the juvenile will be charged as an adult with aggravated assault once arrested.
The investigation remains ongoing.
