MISSISSIPPI — One person is dead and several others were injured following a crash on Highway 6 in Quitman County on Thursday, according to officials.
The Coahoma County Fire Department said crews responded to the crash after receiving a mutual aid request from Quitman County around 4 p.m. April 2.
Authorities said the crash involved an overturned vehicle with trapped occupants. Emergency responders treated multiple patients at the scene who were suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Officials confirmed that one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire crews assisted with patient care and helped establish a landing zone for two air medical helicopters.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident,” the department said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
