One person dead following crash involving school bus in Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI — One person was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash involving a school bus in central Mississippi, according to authorities.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 433 in Bentonia, the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office reported. Investigators said a pickup truck and a school bus collided at the intersection for reasons that have not yet been released.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Philip Williams, 63, of Yazoo City. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the school bus driver and two children who were on board the bus were not injured in the crash. No additional information about the cause of the collision or whether charges are pending has been released.

Bentonia is located approximately 26 miles northwest of Jackson. The crash remains under investigation by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
