SOUTH CAROLINA — A man was shot and killed Thursday morning while attempting to rob Jay’s Barbershop in Ridgeland, according to police.
The Ridgeland Police Department said officers responded to the shop around 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 for reports of an armed robbery. When they arrived, they found 55-year-old Curtis Edward Scott suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined Scott entered the barbershop through a back door wearing a ski mask and carrying a machete. Police say he confronted an employee, who is a legal firearm owner. The employee pulled out a pistol and shot Scott in the chest.
Scott managed to reach his car but collapsed beside it after being shot.
According to authorities, another man wearing a mask and hoodie was seen entering the shop behind Scott. That suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
The Ridgeland Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
