One person dead after vehicle strikes tree in Ohio

OHIO — A 15-year-old passenger was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Geauga County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred just before 1 a.m. on Burton Heights Boulevard near State Route 44.

Troopers said a Ford pickup truck, driven by a 19-year-old Burton resident, veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The 15-year-old passenger, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers, ages 18 and 19, suffered minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Investigators said none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, and speed appears to have been a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
