MISSISSIPPI — A Texas man was arrested Wednesday in Harrison County and charged with felony drug trafficking after deputies seized a large quantity of cocaine during a traffic stop, according to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said 38-year-old Jesus Roberto Carrizales was taken into custody after deputies discovered approximately 19 kilograms of cocaine in his possession.
The arrest followed a traffic stop conducted by HCSO criminal interdiction deputies on a Freightliner semi traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near the 35 mile marker in Gulfport. Deputies initiated the stop due to traffic violations.
During a search of the semi, deputies located two firearms inside the cab, officials said. Investigators also noticed abnormalities with the vehicle, which led to further inspection. Deputies then discovered approximately 19 kilograms of cocaine concealed within the semi.
According to the sheriff’s office, the cocaine has an estimated street value of more than $1 million if divided and sold individually.
Carrizales was charged with aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance and transported to the Harrison County Jail. He is being held on a $1 million bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert J. Fountain.
The Harrison County Narcotics Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration assisted with the investigation.
