FLORIDA — A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist Thursday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Logan Pineda, of Hudson, was driving a Tesla Model Y on Parkwood Street around 9 p.m. on Feb. 19 when he attempted to overtake a bicyclist. Authorities said Pineda struck the bicyclist, a 52-year-old Tampa woman, just south of Bert Street.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries, FHP said.
Investigators said Pineda left the scene following the crash but later returned while troopers were still investigating. He identified himself as the driver and was taken into custody Thursday evening.
Pineda was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and booked into the Pasco County Jail.
The crash remains under investigation.
