
INDIANA — A Chicago man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on July 11 near US 41 and County Road 300 North.
Indiana State Police Trooper Thomen pulled over a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox just before 12:30 p.m. for speeding.
While speaking with the driver, Trooper Thomen detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
During a search, officers found suspected cocaine weighing over 30 grams in a bag believed to belong to passenger Mecka Pierce, 49, of Chicago, Illinois. A glass pipe containing suspected burnt marijuana was also located inside the vehicle.
Pierce was taken into custody and transported to the Warren County Jail. He faces charges of dealing cocaine, a Level 2 felony, and possession of cocaine, a Level 3 felony. The cocaine will be sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for confirmation of its weight and composition.
The driver was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding and was released at the scene.
Trooper Thomen was assisted by officers from the Lafayette Post and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
