North Carolina school closings and delays for Thursday

NORTH CAROLINA — Several school districts across the North Carolina mountains will operate on delayed schedules Thursday, December 11, as cold temperatures and lingering icy patches continue to affect road conditions.

Alleghany County Schools in Sparta announced a two-hour delay for students and staff. Avery County Schools also reported a two-hour delay.

Yancey County Schools will delay opening by two hours as well, and officials noted that no buses will run on icy roads, advising families in affected areas to use caution.

Ashe County Schools likewise confirmed a two-hour delay for Thursday morning.

School officials across the region said the delays are precautionary and aim to give transportation crews extra time to assess and address potential hazards. Families are encouraged to check district alerts for any further updates.
