OHIO — Schools across Ohio have announced extensive closures and schedule changes for Wednesday as communities continue dealing with the effects of winter storm Fern, which dropped close to a foot of snow and led to dangerous road conditions across much of the state.
In southwest Ohio’s Miami Valley, Dayton Public Schools confirmed that all schools will be closed Wednesday because of lingering hazardous conditions, with essential staff still required to report.
In the Greater Cincinnati area, dozens of districts — including Cincinnati Public Schools — canceled classes or shifted to virtual learning for Wednesday as extreme cold and icy roads continue to impact travel and safety.
Central and east-central Ohio also reported numerous closures Wednesday. According to local listings, many school districts — including Columbus City Schools, Big Walnut Local Schools, Buckeye Valley, Canal Winchester, Dublin City Schools, Gahanna-Jefferson City Schools, Newark City Schools, Reynoldsburg City Schools, Westerville City Schools and others — will be closed for the day. Some districts also reported remote learning arrangements and extended closures through the week.
Fairborn City Schools in Greene County specifically announced they will be closed Wednesday and plan a two-hour delay Thursday due to ongoing weather impacts.
Officials urged parents and guardians to check with individual school districts for the most up-to-date information, as weather and road conditions remain unpredictable and may prompt further adjustments to schedules.
