NORTH CAROLINA — Several North Carolina school systems have announced closures, remote learning days, or continued schedule adjustments for Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, in response to ongoing travel and weather concerns following a significant winter storm that hit the region over the weekend.
In the Piedmont Triad, Rockingham County Schools will operate as a remote learning day Tuesday, meaning students will learn from home rather than attend in-person classes.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials announced that all district schools and work locations will be closed Tuesday, citing wintry conditions and the need for additional time to clear ice and ensure safe travel. This closure also includes cancellation of all before- and after-school programs and activities; the district has rescheduled its mid-year graduation to Feb. 12 instead of holding it Tuesday.
Many other districts state they are still evaluating conditions and will update families. In several southeastern counties, decisions about Tuesday’s operations — including whether classes will be in person, remote, or canceled — are expected by late Monday evening as local officials assess road safety and building conditions.
The announcements come after a powerful winter storm brought record snowfall and hazardous travel conditions to large parts of the state, leading to closures, delays and safety warnings across North Carolina over the past several days.
Parents and students are encouraged to monitor school district websites, official social media feeds, and emergency alerts for the latest updates on Tuesday schedules, as conditions continue to improve but remain unsettled in some areas.
