MISSISSIPPI — Most public schools across Mississippi are expected to be closed in observance of Good Friday in 2026, based on district calendars from around the state.
Good Friday falls on April 3, 2026. While Mississippi does not require a uniform statewide school holiday schedule, local school districts set their own academic calendars. However, a review of multiple districts shows a consistent pattern: many schools will not hold classes that day.
Several districts explicitly list Good Friday as a holiday. In the Hattiesburg Public School District, April 3 is designated as a “Good Friday Holiday,” with no classes scheduled for students.
Other districts close as part of a broader Easter break. In Jackson Public Schools, schools and offices are closed from April 3 through April 6 for Easter break, which includes Good Friday. Similarly, Okolona School District schedules an Easter break from April 3–6, meaning students are out of school on Good Friday.
Additional systems also reflect direct closures. Starkville Oktibbeha School District lists April 3 as Good Friday with no classes, while other district calendars across the state include either a Good Friday holiday or a closure tied to Easter observances.
Because Mississippi school calendars are determined locally, there is no centralized statewide list of closures. However, district schedules show a clear statewide trend: the majority of public schools will be closed on Good Friday 2026, either as a designated holiday or because it falls within an Easter or spring break period.
Families are advised to check with their local district for exact schedules, as a small number of systems may structure their calendars differently.
