Mississippi school closings and delays for Monday

MISSISSIPPI — Schools in one Mississippi district will be closed Monday as severe weather moves into the state.

Officials with the Lawrence County School District announced that all schools and offices will be closed on March 16, 2026, due to expected severe weather conditions.

Storms are forecast to move into Mississippi Sunday night. District officials said crews have been working to address issues across the county, but low-hanging trees and power lines remain in several areas.

Because additional severe weather is expected overnight, school officials said they will be unable to fully assess potential travel hazards before buses would normally begin operating Monday morning.

As a result, the district decided to close schools and offices for the day to ensure the safety of students and staff.

School officials said they will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates if necessary.
