SOUTH CAROLINA — A body was discovered inside a vehicle recovered from the Pee Dee River on Tuesday, according to local officials.
The incident occurred along Oakland Road, where the river runs through Dillon County. Crews were in the process of recovering the submerged vehicle when the person was found inside.
Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley confirmed the discovery and said the South Carolina Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation. Additional details have not yet been released.
The case marks the second time in less than 48 hours that a vehicle has been found in a Pee Dee-area waterway.
In the first incident, two fishermen spotted a submerged car Sunday afternoon off Gully Road in the Nichols area of Marion County. Authorities said no one was inside that vehicle.
Officials have not said whether the two incidents are connected. The investigation into Tuesday’s discovery remains ongoing.
