MISSISSIPPI — Jackson police are investigating after an unidentified body was discovered at the home of a woman who had previously been reported missing.
According to the Jackson Police Department, officers found a body buried in a grave in the backyard of the residence belonging to Carol Ryan. Authorities said the remains have not yet been identified, and forensic testing is underway to confirm the identity and determine the manner of death.
Ryan was reported missing by a family member after they had not heard from her for several months. Police said she was also reportedly supposed to be living in a nursing home in Brandon at the time of her disappearance.
Investigators said Ryan will continue to be classified as a missing person until the remains are positively identified through forensic analysis.
Police confirmed that Ryan’s son and daughter-in-law have been detained for questioning while the investigation continues. Officials said potential charges will depend on the outcome of the investigation and forensic results.
