FLORIDA — A bicyclist was seriously injured Sunday morning in a traffic crash that led to the temporary closure of the northbound lanes of the U.S. 1 bridge in Jupiter, town officials said.

The Town of Jupiter announced that the northbound lanes were closed after a traffic accident was reported. According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched at 10:08 a.m. to the area of North A1A and north U.S. Highway 1 following a report of a crash involving a bicycle.

When fire rescue personnel arrived, they found one person trapped underneath a vehicle. Officials said the individual had been riding a bicycle when they were struck by a vehicle, which then rolled over both the bicyclist and the bicycle.

Fire rescue crews were able to remove the bicyclist from underneath the vehicle and stabilize the person at the scene. The injured bicyclist was transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert.

Town officials said the roadway reopened just after 2 p.m. Sunday. The crash remains under investigation.
