OHIO — A 70-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on U.S. Route 62 near Orient in Pickaway County, authorities said.

According to Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew Hafey, a 911 call was received at 10:41 a.m. reporting a crash involving a car and a semi-truck.

Deputies determined that the victim, identified as David Shannon, 70, was driving a Dodge Ram and attempting to pass another vehicle when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming semi.

The force of the impact caused the semi-truck to lose its left front tire and veer left of center, where it sideswiped an eastbound Subaru. The Subaru then struck a utility pole as it came to a stop.

Shannon was pronounced dead at the scene by medics with the Sterling Joint Ambulance District. Authorities said no immediate information was available regarding the condition of the semi-truck driver or the Subaru driver.

The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
