GEORGIA — A woman is in critical condition after being found seriously injured early Friday morning in Jesup, according to police.
Officers responded around 12:28 a.m. to a report of a person in the roadway at the intersection of Georgia Highway 27 and Georgia Highway 169. When they arrived, they located a woman, later identified as Jackson, suffering from severe injuries.
Police initially believed the woman may have been struck by a vehicle. However, a preliminary investigation determined she suffered significant head trauma, and investigators now believe she may have been assaulted before being discovered.
Emergency medical services transported Jackson to a hospital in Savannah, where she remains in critical condition.
No suspects were in custody as of Friday, and investigators are continuing to process evidence and follow leads.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jesup Police Department at 912-427-1300 and request to speak with Investigator Rhett Burford or Investigator Erin White.
The investigation remains ongoing.
