LOUISIANA — A Lacombe woman has been arrested on several counts of animal cruelty after authorities found multiple neglected and injured dogs at her home.

Kathleen Leatherman, 57, was taken into custody and charged with four counts of simple animal cruelty and four counts of aggravated animal cruelty, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies, accompanied by St. Tammany Parish Animal Control, responded to Leatherman’s residence in the 60000 block of S. Pontchartrain Drive following a report of a dog not being properly cared for. At the home, officers discovered four malnourished dogs and two others suffering from significant injuries.

All six dogs were removed from the property and placed in the care of St. Tammany Parish Animal Control. Deputies described the interior of the house as being in “deplorable” condition and said the bodies of two dead dogs were also found inside.

No additional information has been released.
