SOUTH CAROLINA — A woman has been charged following the drowning death of a North Carolina teenager at a Myrtle Beach hotel pool, according to authorities.

Police said Brittany Neely, 32, is facing four counts of unlawful conduct toward a child in connection with the incident.

The charges stem from the death of 14-year-old Neveah Neely, who was pulled from the pool at the Sandbar Hotel on South Ocean Boulevard last week. She was taken to a hospital, where she died around 8:15 p.m.

According to an arrest report, Brittany Neely allegedly left Neveah, who could not swim, and another child unattended in the pool area for an extended period. Investigators said the teen was submerged underwater for about 45 minutes before she was discovered and pulled from the pool.

Officials said Neveah’s family was visiting Myrtle Beach from Salisbury, North Carolina. The exact relationship between Brittany Neely and the victim has not been released.

Brittany Neely was arrested Thursday night and later released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $100,000 bond, according to jail records.

The case remains under investigation.
