West Virginia lawmakers propose renaming Spruce Knob to “Trump Mountain”

WEST VIRGINIA — A group of West Virginia delegates has introduced a resolution to rename Spruce Knob, the state’s highest peak, as “Trump Mountain” in honor of former President Donald J. Trump.

House Concurrent Resolution 33, introduced on February 14 and referred to the House Rules Committee, recognizes Trump’s strong support in West Virginia, where he won every county in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections.

The resolution credits Trump with policies that benefited the state’s coal industry, job growth, and infrastructure development.

Lawmakers argue that Spruce Knob, standing at 4,863 feet in Pendleton County, represents resilience and strength—qualities they say reflect Trump’s leadership.

The resolution calls on the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to consider the name change five years after Trump’s passing.

Supporters view the proposal as a tribute to Trump’s influence on West Virginia and the nation.

However, as the federal government controls geographic naming decisions, the resolution serves as a formal request rather than an immediate change.
