West Virginia coal mine lays off over 100 employees

WEST VIRGINIA — Wolf Run Mining, LLC, a subsidiary of Core Natural Resources, Inc., is reducing its workforce at the Leer South mine in Barbour County, West Virginia.

Approximately 165 employees will be affected across various departments.

The workforce reduction comes as a result of the ongoing global downturn in metallurgical coal markets, which has created economic pressures.

According to the company, the decision is essential to ensure the mine’s long-term viability and its ability to stay competitive in the industry.

The mine also suffered a mine fire but the company did not cite the fire as a part of the reason behind the workforce reduction.

No other information has been released by the company at this time.
