NORTH CAROLINA — A Jamesville man was arrested Thursday night following a brief vehicle pursuit and a struggle with deputies, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant around 8:37 p.m. on Jan. 29 at a residence on St. Andrews Street. The warrant was for a misdemeanor charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities located the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Matthew Quintana, sitting inside a vehicle parked in the yard of the residence.

As deputies approached, the vehicle sped away, prompting a short pursuit. Quintana was taken into custody a few blocks from the residence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said Quintana resisted arrest and assaulted deputies during the encounter. After a struggle, deputies were able to take him into custody.

Quintana faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing to elude arrest, failure to stop for blue lights and siren, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, driving while license revoked, misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer, felony assault on a law enforcement officer inflicting physical injury, two counts of resisting, obstructing, or delaying an officer, and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

He is currently being held without bond.
