Wanted person struck by truck while running from police in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — A wanted man was struck by a chicken truck Monday morning while running from police in Greenville, authorities said.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on Mauldin Road at SC-Highway 291, near a QuikTrip and the Greenville Inn & Suites.

Greenville Police said officers were attempting to arrest the suspect when he fled on foot. During the pursuit, the man entered the roadway and was hit by a chicken truck.

He was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed the Greenville County Coroner was not called to the scene.

Police said the man was wanted for violation of probation and now faces an additional charge of interfering with police. His name will be released once he is booked into the detention center.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
