Wanted murder suspect arrested by police in Ohio

OHIO — A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 32-year-old man in north Toledo that occurred two months ago.

Toledo police announced Tuesday that Dionte Davis, 31, has been charged with murder in the death of Jovontai Highsmith.

Highsmith was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in a crashed vehicle near the intersection of Lagrange and Peck streets on the night of April 8.

According to court documents, surveillance footage and witness statements led investigators to identify Davis as the suspect.

Police said an officer attempted a traffic stop on Davis on Tuesday.

When the officer asked him to exit the vehicle, Davis allegedly fled, prompting a vehicle pursuit. He was ultimately apprehended and taken into custody. In addition to the murder charge, Davis is also facing a charge of failure to comply.
