VIRGINIA — Virginia State Police say a recent weeklong crime suppression initiative led to major seizures and new investigations across the Commonwealth.
Between Aug. 13 and Aug. 19, troopers — working with federal and local partners — recovered firearms, narcotics, stolen vehicles, and cash while also generating leads in homicide and human trafficking cases.
Authorities reported seizing nine firearms valued at roughly $5,500, along with 87.8 pounds of illegal narcotics and 250 controlled substance pills worth more than $825,000.
The drugs included 6.1 pounds of cocaine, 2.4 ounces of crack cocaine, 3.2 pounds of methamphetamine, 74.9 pounds of marijuana, 2 pounds of fentanyl, 1.4 pounds of MDMA, and 100 THC vapes. Police also confiscated $64,337 in cash.
During the operation, state police began investigating one homicide case and recovered two stolen vehicles. Troopers also received 19 new human trafficking tips, adding to more than 1,100 reports received to date. Police said 229 cases are currently being investigated, with 69 victims identified and offered services.
Additionally, 20 new gaming-related tips were submitted, bringing the total to 1,789.
State police said the crime suppression efforts are part of an ongoing mission to reduce violent crime and protect communities across Virginia in cooperation with local, state, and federal agencies.
