Virginia school closings and delays for Friday

VIRGINIA — Two schools in Covington will be closed to in-person instruction on Friday, March 27, 2026, due to a boil water advisory affecting the city.

Officials announced that Covington Middle School and Jeter-Watson Elementary School will shift to virtual learning for the day as a precaution. Students are expected to participate in classes remotely from home.

School officials said the decision was made with safety in mind. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority,” the statement said.

In addition to the schedule change, meal distribution will still be provided for families. Meal packets will be available for pickup at Jeter-Watson Elementary School between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

No further details were immediately released regarding when in-person classes might resume, as the situation depends on the status of the city’s water advisory.
