Vehicle crash causes power outage for thousands in Ohio

OHIO — More than 2,800 AEP Ohio customers near The Ohio State University were without power Friday afternoon following a crash involving a dump truck in the West Campus area.

According to AEP Ohio, the crash occurred near the intersection of Carmack Road and West Lane Avenue. The power outage began around 3:15 p.m. after the truck reportedly struck AEP Ohio equipment.

As of 4 p.m., approximately 2,889 customers were affected by the outage. AEP Ohio said field crews were on scene assessing the damage and working to restore service.

In a post on its Facebook page, AEP Ohio estimated that power would be restored by around 6 p.m. The utility company said it will continue to provide updates on restoration efforts through its social media channels.
