NORTH CAROLINA — An investigation is underway after a crash involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer caused a hazmat incident Thursday afternoon in Greensboro.
Around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, Greensboro Police responded to U.S. 29 near Lakeview Cemetery for a crash with injuries. Investigators said the driver of a Ford pickup truck pulling a trailer attempted to turn left from the cemetery onto U.S. 29 and failed to yield to traffic.
The pickup was struck by a northbound tractor-trailer hauling a tanker. The impact caused the tanker to begin leaking chlorine bleach, prompting a hazmat response.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Police said the tractor-trailer driver suffered minor injuries, while the pickup truck driver sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
The incident is under investigation.
