OHIO — The U.S. Marshals’ Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) announced the arrest of a 16-year-old male wanted for the fatal shooting of a man outside a Cleveland gas station in January.
According to the NOVFTF, the teen suspect, who was wanted for aggravated murder, was arrested at a home on Forest Avenue.
A gun was also seized from the residence following the arrest.
“A violent fugitive and deadly firearm were taken out of the Cleveland community today,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott.
“The U.S. Marshals Service, partnered with strong local partners like the Cleveland Division of Police, continues to make the northern district of Ohio a safer place to live.”
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on January 27 at a Sunoco gas station on East 93rd Street, where 32-year-old Tyrone Hipps Jr. was murdered.
Investigators believe several suspects met with Hipps there to conduct a deal, and during the encounter, the suspects shot and killed him.
On February 7, the Cleveland Division of Police had issued a release seeking the public’s help in identifying and capturing three suspects in Hipps’ murder.
“In an effort to bring justice to the victim and closure to their family, the Cleveland Division of Police’s homicide unit is urging anyone with information regarding this incident or anyone that can identify these individuals to come forward,” wrote Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz.
“Any details, regardless of how small they may seem, could be crucial in identifying and apprehending the suspects.”
