Two women arrested after trafficking meth near North Carolina elementary school

NORTH CAROLINA — A multi-agency drug investigation in Edgecombe County has resulted in the arrest of two women on multiple trafficking and firearm-related charges, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

SBI agents, working alongside the Rocky Mount Police DepartmentEdgecombe County Sheriff’s OfficeWilson County Sheriff’s Office, and Nash County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant on Pinehurst Drive in Rocky Mount following an ongoing multi-jurisdictional drug investigation, authorities said.

As a result of the search, 21-year-olds Isabella Heaven Marie Baker and Airiona La’Faye Thorne were arrested. According to arrest warrants, investigators seized 10 grams of MDMA and 57 grams of methamphetamine from the residence. The warrants also state that the drugs were located within 1,000 feet of Baskerville Elementary School, leading to enhanced charges.

Authorities also recovered a custom Rock River Arms .45-caliber pistol, which was reported stolen, during the search.

Thorne faces 11 charges stemming from the investigation and is being held at the Edgecombe County Detention Centerunder a $300,000 bond.

Her charges include four counts of trafficking methamphetaminetwo counts of conspiracy to traffic methamphetaminepossession with intent to sell and deliver MDMApossession of a Schedule I controlled substancemaintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substanceselling or delivering a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Baker faces six charges and is being held at the same facility under a $140,000 bond. Her charges include two counts of conspiracy to traffic methamphetaminepossession with intent to sell and deliver MDMAselling or delivering a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a schoolmaintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance, and possession of a stolen firearm.

Both women are scheduled to appear in court in January. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
