OHIO — Two tow truck operators were struck by a vehicle Thursday evening while working at a crash scene on Interstate 90 in Madison Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the initial crash occurred around 7:50 p.m. when a truck driver was involved in an accident on I-90. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Fast and Friendly Tow Service, Madison Fire, Madison EMS, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
While emergency crews were on scene, a second vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man from Euclid was traveling westbound on I-90. Troopers said the driver lost control of his vehicle while passing the crash site. The vehicle struck a patrol cruiser that was parked on the right berm of the roadway with emergency lights activated, as well as two tow truck operators who were outside their vehicles.
One of the operators, Daniel Clack, 39, of Concord Township, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Lake West Hospital. The second operator, Joshua Holstein, 37, of Chardon, suffered minor injuries and was taken to TriPoint Medical Center for treatment.
Two state troopers who were inside the cruiser at the time of the impact were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation. Troopers said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors.
