LOUISIANA — Two Texas women were arrested in Grant Parish after authorities said they attempted to smuggle contraband into a federal prison using crow decoys and a drone.
According to the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Melanie Jean Worthington of Joshua, Texas, and 41-year-old Kassy Marie Cole of Hurst, Texas, were paid $40,000 to deliver drugs and other illegal items into the facility.
Deputies said the women filled plastic crow decoys with contraband, including drugs, cell phones and tobacco. Investigators said the pair used a drone to drop the decoys onto the grounds of the federal prison.
Worthington and Cole were arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including possession of synthetic marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and introducing contraband into a penal institution.
Cole was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.
