Two teenagers hospitalized after crashing two stolen cars in Ohio

COLUMBUS — Two teenagers were hospitalized early Wednesday morning after two stolen vehicles crashed in separate incidents in Columbus.

According to Columbus Police Sergeant Joe Albert, the first crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a 13-year-old lost control of a stolen black Hyundai and crashed into a home on Lockbourne Avenue near Thurman Avenue in the Deshler Park neighborhood.

The car struck the front steps of the residence, causing extensive damage. The teenager was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

About two hours later, a second crash occurred when a Kia Optima, also reportedly stolen, fled from police during an attempted traffic stop near Bonnie Court and Demorest Road in west Columbus.

The driver of the Kia sped away, but officers found the vehicle a mile away after it crashed into a tree on Briggs Road. A 16-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The driver fled the scene, but two 17-year-olds were later apprehended nearby and taken into custody.

Police confirmed both vehicles had been stolen, but charges for the teens involved have not yet been announced.
