Two people sentenced to for fentanyl, meth trafficking in Ohio

OHIO — Two Akron men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their roles in a drug trafficking operation involving fentanyl and methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.

Andrew Corbin, 36, received a 15-year (180-month) sentence, while Calvin Roberts, 42, was sentenced to more than 19 years (235 months) in federal prison.

Both men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and related charges.

Roberts also admitted to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He had prior convictions for heroin trafficking in 2013 and 2020.

According to court records, from April to August 2023, Roberts obtained large quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine from a local supplier and sold the drugs to Corbin, who lived nearby on the same street.

Both men sold drugs from their homes and used a network of co-conspirators to distribute the substances throughout Summit County.

On August 28, 2023, investigators executed search warrants at both homes. At Roberts’s residence, they recovered a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol, ecstasy pills, a digital scale, an extended magazine, and two cellphones.

Corbin’s home contained a Phoenix Arms 9mm pistol, ammunition, multiple cellphones, scales, and drug paraphernalia.

Authorities estimate the seized drugs weighed about 17 ounces and had a street value of more than $8,000.

Two other Akron men, Ernest Shropshire, 39, and Phillip August, 57, have also pleaded guilty in connection with the case. Shropshire is scheduled to be sentenced May 22, and August on May 20.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph P. Dangelo.
