Two people injured following vehicle crash in Virginia

VIRGINIA — Two drivers were injured Wednesday night after an SUV struck a disabled vehicle on Interstate 85 North, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 9:50 p.m. on Aug. 13. Police said a disabled vehicle was stopped partially in the left lane of northbound I-85 when it was hit on the rear passenger side by a Chevrolet Blazer.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to veer into the right lane, lose control, overturn several times, and run off the road, hitting multiple trees.

A tractor-trailer traveling in the right lane also struck the disabled vehicle, police said. The driver then lost control, ran off the left side of the road, and overturned the trailer, which split in half and spilled its load onto the roadway.

Both the disabled vehicle’s driver and the Chevrolet’s driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Lanes were closed for an extended period to allow crews to clear debris from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
