Two people injured following vehicle crash in Alabama

ALABAMA — A crash on Highway 72 in Huntsville left two people injured and caused traffic delays in both directions Tuesday night, according to the Huntsville Police.

Police said the crash occurred on Highway 72 between Epworth and Moores Mill roads, resulting in lane closures on both the eastbound and westbound sides of the highway as emergency crews worked at the scene.

Huntsville Emergency Medical Services Inc. spokesperson Don Webster said two patients were transported to Huntsville Hospital Trauma Services. Both patients were reported to be in stable condition and were undergoing further evaluation.

Webster said the patients were initially trapped inside their vehicles, prompting a response from Huntsville Fire & Rescueand the Huntsville Madison County Rescue Squad to assist with extrication efforts.

Huntsville Police are asking drivers to use alternate routes while crews continue to work the scene and clear the roadway. The cause of the crash has not been released, and the incident remains under investigation.
