Two people injured after vehicle collides with train in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — Two people were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a vehicle collided with a CSX train in the Effingham area of Florence County.

According to officials, the crash occurred around 6:36 a.m. near East Eagerton Road. The vehicle, which had two occupants, was struck by the train.

Both individuals were transported to a hospital with injuries described as “unknown” at this time.

No injuries were reported among the crew or passengers aboard the CSX train.

Florence County Emergency Management initially reported that the railroad crossings at Horace Matthews Road and East Smallwood Road were blocked due to the incident.

The agency later confirmed that traffic in the area has since returned to normal.
