Two people injured after being struck while riding scooter in Florida

FLORIDA — Two people riding an electric scooter were critically injured Friday evening in a hit-and-run crash, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Gulfport Boulevard and Luana Lane South around 7:20 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported two people lying in the roadway. First responders arrived to find a 61-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman with severe injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Investigators believe the pair was hit from behind by a car that continued eastbound on Gulfport Boulevard without stopping. The vehicle is described as an older SUV with heavy front-end damage and a triangle-shaped driver’s side window.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
