Two people injured after being bitten by fox in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — Two people were hospitalized Monday morning after being bitten by a fox in separate incidents in Moore County, according to emergency responders.

The first incident happened around 8 a.m. on Midway Road in Aberdeen, where a woman was bitten in her front yard. She was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Responding officers found the fox under a vehicle chewing on a tire, but it ran into nearby woods before it could be shot.

While officers were still on the scene, they received another call about a man bitten by a fox on Sycamore Street, a short distance away. The 77-year-old victim, who was celebrating his birthday, was bitten on the leg and taken to the same hospital.

After a search, officers located a fox near the first scene on Midway Road and shot it.

Moore County EMS, the Aberdeen Police Department, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and Moore County Animal Control responded. Officials warn residents not to approach foxes if they are seen.
